3 Easy and Epic Ways to Explore Arlington on Foot

Ten urban villages connected by miles of pedestrian-friendly sidewalks and trails make up the city of Arlington. Because of that, walking is one of the best ways to get to know the area around our Clarendon apartments. If you’d like to become more confident exploring Arlington on foot, here are some ways to get walking:

Walking Tours

WalkArlington offers a number of guided walking tours. Program Director Katy Lang leads a walking tour of the Rosslyn area. The tour begins at Gateway Park and explores local bars, parks, and art, and ends at a beer garden. An interesting local highlight of this tour is the “Deep Throat Garage,” a parking garage made famous when Bob Woodward and Watergate source “Deep Throat” met there for secret meetings!

Trails

Arlington is home to many walking trails. Check out WalkArlington’s list of local trail walks and go on an adventure close to home this weekend! Some of our favorites include Four Mile Run Trail, the perfectly flat Washington & Old Dominion Trail (W&OD or “Wad”), and Mount Vernon Trail. There is so much to see that you’ll miss if you don’t explore on two feet.

Walking Groups

Joining a walking group is a great way to explore the Arlington area and meet new people. Local walking group opportunities include the Theodore Roosevelt Island park run, which occurs every Saturday at 9 AM (you can run or walk). Alternatively, check meetup.com to find a group or start your own.
