Avant Bard Theatre

You’ll find a lineup of classic works at this Arlington-based performing arts center. Originally established in 1990 as Washington Shakespeare Company, Avant Bard has transformed several times over the years. In 2010, it became the resident theater company at Arlington’s Artisphere, a 125-seat Black Box theatre. Avant Bard’s primary performance venue is now in Arlington’s Gunston Arts Center. Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse

Identified as one of Arlington County’s 23 historic properties, Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse stands as the only surviving theater in the county built during the cinema boom of the 1940s.  Originally Arlington Theatre, the first film ever shown was My Favorite Wife, starring Cary Grant and Irene Dunne. Tickets cost 25 cents when the theater first opened in 1940. Although ticket prices have gone up, you can still catch a great show at this historic theater. Signature Theatre has been praised by The Washington PostThe New York TimesEntertainment WeeklyThe Wall Street Journal, and many others for its incredible artistic productions. It has won 128 Helen Hays Awards for excellence and in 2009, it received the prestigious Regional Theatre Tony Award®. Consider purchasing a subscription to Signature’s 2022-23 season which includes a minimum of three shows, guaranteed seats before single tickets go on sale, ticket exchanges, and other benefits. When you decide which shows to see, make sure to give yourself some extra time before the show to grab a drink or light meal from Ali’s Bar located at the theater. Ali’s Bar opens 90 minutes before shows begin.
