Just nineteen minutes from our Clarendon apartments is a unique destination attracting approximately 500,000 visitors every year.
We’re talking about the Torpedo Factory Art Center, and it features the country’s largest collection of working artists studios under one roof.
It has been a fixture along the Potomac Riverfront for over forty years, and the center offers eleven galleries and dozens of exciting classes.
Whether you’re looking for a colorful painting or hand-knitted scarf, the galleries sell these and so much more. Those not to be missed include:
The Enamelist Gallery dates back to the center’s founding. It’s made up of artists who practice the art of true enamel — glass fired onto metal. They use both traditional and modern techniques to create one-of-a-kind pieces you won’t find anywhere else. Items include necklaces, sculptures, and decorative bowls.
Step into the Target Gallery to see works by emerging artists. They have worked out of the center’s Studio 319 for the last three years where they created and interacted with visitors. Their unique pieces will be on display through January 20th.
Potomac Fiber Arts Gallery
When the Potomac Fiber Arts Gallery opened in 1974, it became the first fiber arts gallery in the DC metropolitan area. Many of the artists teach and have been published. They’ve also won numerous awards, and are active in the local arts community. Shoppers find quilts, necklaces, baskets, and so much more.
The Art League School
The Art League School teaches the center’s premier classes. It welcomes over 10,000 students every year who come to learn in a fun setting. Beginners enjoy the supportive atmosphere, while more experienced artists are challenged to learn new skills. Sessions include The Art of Caricature, Crash Course in Acrylic Painting, and Knitting & Weaving with Wire.
The Torpedo Factory Art Center is just one of the premier attractions near our Arlington, VA apartments. If you’re searching for a place to call home, please contact us. We’d love for you to see firsthand all we have to offer.Back to all posts
