The Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail Network is a set of trails that follow the banks of the monumental river as it curves and flows on its way. The trails are classified by region and each region has its own individual history, wildlife, nature, and conservation effort. Each trail in this network offers something unique and interesting to anyone who chooses to explore it. 

Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Trails

The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Trails follow the path of the historic Chesapeake & Ohio Canal. The canal, which was once one of the primary routes used to ship goods up and down the Potomac River, has over 184 miles of towpaths and connecting trails. Hikers can traverse through both Virginia and Maryland as they explore these historic trails. 

Donaldson Run Park and Trail

Donaldson Run Park is home to over 30 acres of hiking trails and nature. The trails are covered with lush forests and connect to other trails and parks as well. In addition, there are several streams that lead down to the Potomac River allowing you to traverse the banks of the river on well-maintained pathways while enjoying the nature around you.
